Very soon this will all seem like a dream, and reality will be something completely different.

Osa Peninsula, Property of El Tigre

December 2003
Pictures These photos are from the property of "El Tigre" a locally famous man who has been living on the Osa Peninsula for over 30 years. He first arrived when he was only 18 years-old, to work on a farm with his brothers. Soon gold was discovered in the mountains of the peninsula and they formed a company. They extracted gold for many years until the federal governement of Costa Rica designated the peninsula a protected zone and forcefully evicted all gold miners. El Tigre (Dredin Ortiz) was able to buy thousand of acres of property, which he still has left relatively untouched. If you can find the road that goes there, you can camp on his beach for free. He takes people on boat rides for $15/hr. He lives a beautiful and simple life with his two kids and wife, in a picturesque location.
